AAA Predicts Record Holiday Travel

Holiday travel in the U.S. is expected to reach record levels, with over 119 million people traveling at least 50 miles from home between Saturday and New Year’s Day.

Airlines anticipate carrying 54 million passengers during this period, a 6% increase from last year. Despite potential government shutdowns, airport operations are expected to continue, with TSA screening 40 million passengers.

Travel times on highways may be up to 30% longer than normal, with Boston, New York City, Seattle, and Washington, D.C., facing the greatest delays. Airlines are now required to provide automatic cash refunds for canceled or significantly delayed flights, offering passengers more options during peak travel periods.
